• Oberursel U.III engine (24-32335) - 1/32

The Oberursel U.III was a 14-cylinder, two-row rotary engine producing about 160 hp (119 kW). Developed by Motorenfabrik Oberursel, it was a German design based on earlier Gnome twin-row concepts. Due to complexity and reliability issues, it was used only on a small number of aircraft during World War I.

Aircraft powered by the Oberursel U.III

  • Fokker E.IV (M.15) – a twin-gun Eindecker variant; tested and occasionally used with the U.III.
  • Fokker D.III – some experimental and limited-production variants used the U.III.
  • Pfalz E.IV – early reconnaissance and fighter monoplanes; U.III used in small batches.

Historical significance

The Oberursel U.III represented Germany’s attempt to produce more powerful rotary engines to compete with Allied designs. Although it offered more power than single-row engines, mechanical complexity and limited reliability prevented it from widespread use. Its installation was largely experimental or confined to small production runs.{{freeshipping_code_1}}{{payment}}
