• Oberursel U.0 engine (24-32337) - 1/32

The Oberursel U.0 was an 80 hp (≈60 kW) seven-cylinder rotary engine - a German licensed copy of the French Gnome 7 Lambda. It was Motorenfabrik Oberursel’s first production aero engine and powered several early German warplanes at the very start of World War I.

Aircraft that were fitted with the Oberursel U.0

  • Fokker M.5 / M.5K (prototype) - the Fokker M.5 family (the direct ancestors of the Eindecker fighters) used Gnome-type seven-cylinder rotaries in their earliest forms; the Oberursel U.0 was the German-built example commonly installed.
  • Fokker E.I (early production examples) - the first production Fokker Eindeckers used the 80 hp Gnome-type engine supplied under licence as the Oberursel U.0. The U.0 powered the earliest E.I aircraft that took part in the 1915 fighting.
  • Pfalz E-series (license-built Morane-Saulnier monoplanes) - several early Pfalz monoplanes built under license from Morane-Saulnier were fitted with Gnome-type seven-cylinder rotaries; German sources list U.0 installations on some Pfalz E-type examples.
  • Various trainers, prototypes and limited-use types - because the U.0 was a common available 80 hp rotary early in the war, it was also used in a number of prototype aircraft, trainers and small production batches where an 80 hp rotary was required.

Short technical & historical note

Еhe Oberursel U.0 was essentially the German production version of the Gnome 7 Lambda and helped give early German fighters (most famously the Fokker E.I) the power-to-weight ratio needed to establish localized air superiority in 1915. Later, as more powerful and more reliable engines became available, U.0-equipped types were replaced or upgraded.{{freeshipping_code_1}}{{payment}}
