Le Rhône 9J was a 9-cylinder rotary engine rated at approximately 110 hp, representing a more powerful development of the earlier Le Rhône 9C.
Developed in France and widely produced under licence in several countries, it became one of the most important rotary engines of the mid-war period.
The engine was valued for its balance of power, weight, and reliability, making it well suited for both fighter and reconnaissance aircraft.
Typical applications included:
• Nieuport 17
• Sopwith Camel (early production)
• Various licence-built aircraft
Engines of this type represent the transition to more powerful and capable rotary engines used in front-line combat aircraft.
