The Bentley BR2 was a 9-cylinder rotary engine delivering approximately 230 hp (172 kW). It was the most powerful rotary engine to see widespread service in World War I and was developed in Britain by W.O. Bentley.
Aircraft powered by the Bentley BR2
- Sopwith Snipe – most production models used the BR2 for superior climb and speed.
- Sopwith Salamander – armored ground-attack variant powered by the BR2.
- Sopwith Kangaroo – twin-seat bomber variant.
- Other experimental or late-war aircraft – BR2 was occasionally fitted in prototypes needing the most powerful rotary available.
Historical significance
The BR2 represented the pinnacle of rotary engine design. Its high power output allowed late-war British fighters to outperform older rotary-powered aircraft, providing the Allies with superior performance during 1918.{{freeshipping_code_1}}{{payment}}
